JV FanFic? Part 1

I don't know if this will turn into anything but I'm going to start a new story. It's fanfic but it doesn't have Skulduggery I think. Really I started to write this and it sounded good but I don't know where it's going or if it's going anywhere at all. So, here goes...

Jay ran. She could hear Vade’s footsteps behind her as he followed. Her boots slipped a little on the wet ground. It had rained earlier that day and the streetlights made the ground glitter. Jay heard Vade shout and she spun around. Behind her was a huge black mass of writhing tentacles that shot out into the darkness. The thing itself seemed to be made of darkness and it sucked away the little light that the streetlights provided. It stood at least twelve feet tall and its shape was constantly changing to fit the environment. Jay was sure that it couldn’t see, hear, taste or smell so it moved around only by sense of touch. It was very sensitive though and even the smallest vibrations in the air would cause it to turn. Currently, it was holding a sixteen-year-old boy upside-down by the ankle. Vade was doing his best to kick it but he couldn’t reach the monster. Jay saw a sword, Vade’s weapon, lying on the ground a few feet away.

"Well, don't just stand there. Help me!" he yelled at her.

"Oh, you're fine. Don't be such a baby," Jay said, milling around calmly.

"Jay!"

She rolled her eyes.

"Oh, alright."

She slid her knives out of her coat. They were thin, about as long as her forearm and really sharp. She dove forward quickly, blurring her movements as she picked up speed. Before the monster even realized what she was doing, she had jumped up and used it as a jumping board. The Jell-O-like mass gave her momentum and she soared forward, slicing through the tendril that held Vade up. He fell, landing on his hands and tucking into a graceful roll. He picked up his sword and dashed after Jay.

"Where to?"

"Kenya, it's so nice this time of year, wouldn't you say. It would be a great place to spend spring break."

Vade stared at her as she ran. Jay stumbled and rolled. Vade jumped over her and she popped up behind him. Neither lost much momentum. Finally, they rounded the corner to the main street and the monster melted away into the shadows. After they were sure that it had left, Vade slid his sword back into its scabbard and wrapped his jacket around it. Jay slid her knives into her coat and they started to walk. Even at night, New York’s main streets were lit up. Cars drove by, people on cell phones hurried through and various advertisements lit up the road so that it looked like daytime.

"That was fun." Jay's face was bright, her amber eyes glowing.

"You are so weird. We could have died."

“But we didn't. How’s the leg?"

Vade glared at her as they made their way back home.
